Hand woven is a broad term that refers to traditional rug construction made by interlacing yarn on a loom, such as in flatweave, Dhurry, Soumak or Kilim. This means the vertical yarns are woven through horizontal yarns, with no pile. A backing is usually not created, but may be added to rugs, depending on the quality.
